Melbourne Florida Watering Days: The Current Schedule for Every Neighborhood

Melbourne Florida Watering Days: The Current Schedule for Every Neighborhood
Posted on April 30th, 2026.

Maintaining a lush lawn in the Melbourne area is more than just a source of pride — it's about meeting The Fox Standard. However, keeping your grass green while staying compliant with local regulations requires a careful eye on the calendar.

As of April 28, 2026, residents should be aware of regional water management updates. While the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) sets the standard, local municipalities and the current water shortage status can shift these rules.

The 2026 Phase II Watering Schedule

Under a Phase II Water Shortage declaration, irrigation is restricted to one day per week for all residential and commercial properties to protect our local water resources.

  • Residential – Odd-Numbered Addresses: Your designated watering day is Saturday.
  • Residential – Even-Numbered Addresses: Your designated watering day is Sunday.
  • Non-Residential (Commercial / HOA Common Ground): Irrigation is permitted on Tuesdays only.
  • Standard Watering Hours: You may water only before 10:00 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m. Irrigation is limited to a maximum of ¾ inch of water or one hour per zone.

Neighborhood-Specific Details

While the SJRWMD sets the baseline, certain areas and systems have specific nuances to keep in mind.

1. West Melbourne Reclaimed Water Users

If your neighborhood uses reclaimed water — often identified by purple pipes or sprinkler heads — you may have a specialized schedule to manage system pressure. Specific areas like Saddlebrooke, Oak Grove, and Timber Ridge have designated time slots to ensure adequate pressure for all users.

See the West Melbourne Neighborhood Reuse Schedule for details.

2. HOA Common Grounds

For our partners in HOAs across Melbourne and Viera, common areas are classified as non-residential. This means main entrances and shared parks should be watered on Tuesdays.

3. Beachside — Satellite Beach, Cocoa Beach & Cape Canaveral

Salt air can be tough on turf, making the one-day-per-week restriction especially challenging. To maximize efficiency, make sure your sprinkler heads are properly aligned so every drop hits the grass — not the pavement.

Exceptions to the Rule

There are a few instances where you can water outside of your assigned schedule.

  • New Landscaping: New sod or plantings come with a 60-day establishment period. You may water any day for the first 30 days, then every other day for the following 30.
  • Hand Watering: Watering plants or shrubs with a hand-held hose equipped with an automatic shut-off nozzle is permitted at any time.
  • Chemical Applications: Watering in fertilizers or pesticides is allowed within 24 hours of application, but should not exceed ¼ inch of water.

Pro Tip: Watch the Weather

In Florida, a heavy afternoon downpour often does the job for you. If there has been significant rain, skip your scheduled day. Overwatering doesn't just waste money — it encourages fungus and weakens root systems.
